Quick Overview

The MW853UST 3200-Lumen WXGA Ultra-Short Throw DLP Projector from BenQ features a 0.43:1 throw ratio, which is ideal for classroom and other applications where the projector is to be mounted very close to the screen. A single lamp provides 3200 ANSI lumens brightness in Normal Mode, and a single-chip DLP imaging device renders a 1280 x 800 (WXGA) resolution, 16:10 aspect ratio image. Through scaling the projector can also support a range of non-native resolutions, up to Full HD (1920 x 1080) for video and UXGA (1600 x 1200) for computer sources.

Ultra-Short Throw Design
With a 0.43:1 throw ratio it is possible to render a 80"-wide (100"-diagonal) image with the projector mounted 34" away from the screen. By wall mounting at such a close distance the risk of shadow interference and potentially dazzling specular reflections is greatly reduced.
BenQ PointWrite Compatible
Combine this projector with separately available PointWrite hardware and a computer to bring an interactive learning experience to your classroom. Some of the things you can do with the PointWrite system:
  • Turn any surface into an interactive whiteboard that you can draw on with PointWrite pens or just your fingers
  • Seamlessly merge the image from two projectors to create an extra large virtual workspace
  • Up to four fingers/pens can be used at once
  • For faster setup, auto calibration takes as litter as one second (depending on your computer)
  • Up to 0.016-second response time when writing
3200 Lumen Lamp
A single lamp provides 3000 lumens of brightness in Normal mode, and is estimated to last 4000 hours (up to 7000 hours in the lower brightness SmartEco Mode). To determine the ideal brightness level for your application, you will need to take into account the screen width, distance from the projector to the screen (throw distance), amount of ambient light near the screen, and the reflectivity (gain) of the screen surface used.
16:10 Native Aspect Ratio
This projector features a 16:10 native aspect ratio. This is considered a widescreen format, and comes very close to the 16:9 standard of HDTV. This format is ideal if you plan to show HD video, and can still be used for presentations - though in the case of PowerPoints some extra space may be leftover on the sides. The projector can show 4:3 too; however black bars (pillaring) will have to be applied, or the image will have to be stretched or cropped to fit.
Single Chip DLP Technology
Uses a combination of a chip covered in millions of micro-mirrors and a color wheel to produce an image. DLP features less spacing between pixels and better contrast than many comparable LCD-based systems.

SmartEco Power Saving Mode
By detecting the input content to determine the amount of brightness required for optimum color and contrast performance, the SmartEco Mode is designed to reduce lamp power while maintaining consistent image quality.
Eco Blank Mode
Allows teachers or presenters to blank the projection screen whenever they need to direct focus back on them and not the image - or simply to save power when the projector is not in use. This mode can be configured to kick in automatically after three minutes of inactivity and the projector can automatically power off completely after 30 minutes of inactivity.
Full HD 3D Support
Features DLP technology to support 3D functionality, allowing you to bring an immersive learning experience to students with a simple preparation of separately available 3D glasses and 3D content.
BrilliantColor Technology
Enables up to six-color processing by incorporating the secondary colors Yellow, Cyan, and Magenta along with primary Red, Blue, and Green to help provide more accurate color reproduction.
RS-232 and Ethernet Controllable
An RS-232 port means the projector can be controlled from a computer running custom software or via automation system such as Crestron. Meanwhile an Ethernet port allows it to be controlled across a local network using a Web browser.
USB Ports
Two USB ports are included. A USB 2.0 type B female for connecting to a computer to install firmware update. And a mini-USB 2.0 type B female for connection to the separately available PointWrite Module.
32 dB Normal Operation
A fan-based cooling system ensures the lamp stays within a safe operation temperature range. When used in normal brightness the fan generates approximately 32 dB of noise, which drops to 29 dB in Eco mode.
Wall Mount Included
The wall mount features an installation chart and a measuring ruler to help you find the most suitable projector-screen alignment and image position for your classroom.
